The book of Habakkuk is similar to the book of Job with the chief difference being that Job complained to God about the personal curses that befell him – a righteous man, whereas Habakkuk complained to God about the righteous in society who fall prey to the wicked.
Both Habakkuk and Job cry out to God questioning Him, asking Him why He seemingly does nothing to stop wickedness while allowing evil to proliferate, as injustice and unfair treatment are often what the righteous receive.
Many people have become God-hating atheists, refusing to believe in God, because they question a God who allows evil in society and the untimely deaths of family members. The books of Habakkuk and Job were written for those who question the sovereignty and wisdom of Almighty God. God will eventually deal with and judge all the wicked people of the world of this age, but until He does, the just shall live by his faith (Habakkuk 2:4).
This article will analyze and interpret the first eleven verses of Habakkuk, as God shows Habakkuk that He will raise up a powerful nation, Chaldea, to deal with some of the evils in the world. Scripture prophecy is often written as a dual prophecy and in typologies. This is the case with Habakkuk 1:1-11, as the United States of America is the end times nation that was prophesied to be raised up, as Chaldea.
The burden [AND PROPHECY] which the prophet Habakkuk saw.
O YHWH (Lord), how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” and You will not save.
Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are
before me; there is strife, and contention arises.
Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore perverse judgment proceeds.
“Look among the nations and watch—Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days [AND IN THE END TIMES] which you would not believe, though it were told you.
For indeed I [YHWH (THE LORD)] am raising up the Chaldeans [AMERICANS], a bitter and hasty nation which marches through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
They [AMERICANS] are terrible and dreadful; their [AMERICAN] judgment and their [AMERICAN] dignity proceed from themselves.Their [AMERICAN] horses [TANKS] also are swifter than leopards, and more fierce than evening wolves.
Their [AMERICAN] chargers charge ahead; their [AMERICAN] cavalry comes from afar;
They [AMERICANS] fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.
They [AMERICAN SOLDIERS] all come for violence;
Their [SOLDIERS’] faces are set like the east wind.
They [AMERICANS] gather captives like sand.
They [AMERICANS] scoff at kings, and princes are scorned by them.
They [AMERICANS] deride every stronghold, for they heap up earthen mounds and seize it.
Then his [AMERICA’S] mind changes, and he [AMERICA] transgresses;
and he [AMERICA] transgresses; he [AMERICA] commits offense,
ascribing this [MILITARY] power [THAT HE POSSESSES] to his god.
America, on a national level, is a nation in moral decline that has forgotten the reason for the national blessings that have made it a great and powerful nation. The military power America possesses is not solely the product of American ingenuity in both technology and governance, but it is the direct result of the blessings of being a righteous, God fearing nation.
JOB 12:23 (NKJV):
He makes nations great, and destroys them.
America is the hammer of the earth, the great end time world superpower nation that God has raised up to judge other nations (Jeremiah 50:23). But, as America continues to turn away from God and embrace sin, it will eventually come under God’s judgment and fall.
America, under prophetic typology, was prophesied to rise up as Chaldea in Habakkuk 1:1-11 and is prophesied to fall as Babylon in Jeremiah chapters 49 through 50 and Revelation chapter 18.
