This article will discuss and identify the woman of Revelation 12.
REVELATION 12:1-6 (NKJV) [WITH INTERPRETATION]:
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman [ISRAEL] clothed with the sun [JACOB], with the moon [RACHEL] under her [ISRAEL’S] feet, and on her [ISRAEL’S] head a garland of twelve stars [TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL – GENESIS 37:9-11]. Then being with child [YESHUA (JESUS)], she [ISRAEL] cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.
And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon [SATAN] having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads [FINAL ROMAN EMPIRE WHICH SATAN INFLUENCES IN THE WORLD].
His [SATAN’S] tail [COATTAILS = INFLUENCE] drew a third of the stars [ANGELS] of heaven and threw them to the earth [WHERE THEY BECAME DEMONS]. And the dragon [SATAN] stood before the woman [ISRAEL] who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child [YESHUA (JESUS)] as soon as it was born [MATTHEW 2]. She [ISRAEL] bore a male Child [YESHUA (JESUS)] who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron [REVELATION 19:15]. And her [ISRAEL’S] Child [YESHUA (JESUS)] was caught up [ASCENDED / RAPTURED] to God and His throne [MARK 16:19, LUKE 24:51, ACTS 1:2, ACTS 2:32-33, 1 TIMOTHY 3:16].
Then the woman [ISRAEL] fled into the wilderness [IN 70 A.D AND ALSO TO BE REPEATED DURING THE ANTIMESSIAH’S (ANTICHRIST’S) 7-YEAR REIGN], where she [ISRAEL] has a place prepared by God, that they [THE PLACES THAT HAVE BEEN PREPARED] should feed her [ISRAEL] there one thousand two hundred and sixty days [3 1/2 YEARS].
The woman of Revelation 12 represents the nation of Israel and the ethnic Jews of the house of Israel. The great sign in heaven describes this woman as being clothed with the sun, moon, and twelve stars, which is a Genesis reference to Jacob, Joseph’s mother Rachel, and the twelve tribes of Israel.
GENESIS 37:9-10 (NKJV) [WITH INTERPRETATION]:
Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun [JACOB], the moon [RACHEL], and the eleven stars [ELEVEN BROTHERS] bowed down to me. So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?”
Jacob had thirteen sons, which sprang forth from Leah, Rachel, Bilhah, and Zilpah. They were: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Dinah, Joseph, and Benjamin. Joseph, the twelfth child became an Egyptian and Benjamin, the thirteenth child, became the twelfth tribe of Israel.
The Roman Catholic Church has historically taught that Mary is the woman of Revelation 12. Images of Mary with a crown of twelve stars above her head serve as an idolatrous object of Catholic Marian worship. Catholicism generally cites Revelation 12:1-6 to claim Mary is the woman of Revelation 12, while omitting the rest of the verses of Revelation 12. Mary did give birth to the Messiah (Revelation 12:5) and Joseph and Mary did flee to Egypt (not the wilderness) to protect Him (Matthew 2:13-16). Mary did not flee to the wilderness AFTER Yeshua (Jesus) ascended to His throne (Revelation 12:5-6). A further reading of Revelation 12:7-17 confirms that the woman being spoken of in Revelation 12 is metaphorically the nation of Israel, and not Miriam (Mary).
REVELATION 12:7-13 (NKJV) [WITH INTERPRETATION]:
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon [SATAN]; and the dragon [SATAN] and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon [SATAN] was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Messiah (Christ) have come [RETURNED TO EARTH], for the accuser [SATAN] of our brethren [SAINTS], who accused them [SAINTS] before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they [THE LEFT BEHIND / BEHEADED SAINTS] overcame him [SATAN] by the blood of the Lamb [YESHUA (JESUS)] and by the word of their testimony, and they [THE LEFT BEHIND / BEHEADED SAINTS] did not love their lives to the death [THEY WERE BEHEADED, REFUSING TO RECEIVE THE MARK OF THE BEAST – REVELATION 20:4]. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea [THOSE WHO DWELL ON EARTH HAVING TAKEN THE MARK – REVELATION 14:9-11, 16:2]! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Now when the dragon [SATAN] saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman [ISRAEL – LUKE 21:24] who gave birth to the male Child [YESHUA (JESUS)]. But the woman [THE RIGHTEOUS OF ISRAEL] was given two wings of a great eagle, that she [ISRAEL] might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time [3 1/2 YEARS], from the presence of the serpent [SATAN]. So the serpent [SATAN] spewed water out of his mouth like a flood [GATHERED THE WORLD’S ARMIES TO OVERWHELM ISRAEL AT ARMAGEDDON – REVELATION 16:13-14] after the woman [ISRAEL], that he [SATAN] might cause her [ISRAEL] to be carried away [DESTROYED] by the flood [MILITARY ATTACK]. But the earth helped the woman [ISRAEL], and the earth opened its mouth [WITH A GREAT EARTHQUAKE – REVELATION 16:18] and swallowed up the flood [THE WORLD’S ARMIES GATHERED AT ARMAGEDDON – REVELATION 16:16- 19] which the dragon [SATAN] had spewed out of his mouth – REVELATION 16:13-14]. And the dragon [SATAN] was enraged with the woman [ISRAEL], and he [SATAN] went to make war with the rest of her offspring [SPIRITUAL OFFSPRING – THE COMMANDMENT KEEPING SAINTS – REVELATION 14:12, 17:14, 22:14], who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yeshua Messiah (Jesus Christ).
